African Day at Vincennes.
Yesterday saw a brilliant race-day at Vincennes in Paris.
The day was draped in the colours of Africa, as most of the races was named after countries on the big continent. Many of the best French horses started, and showed that the hard racing-season during the winter hasn't hurt them too much, one being Dream With Me who was very convincing in a race with 250.000 francs to the winner.
Dream With Me (Tarass Boulba) has been the best horse in France during the winter-meeting, winning the Prix de Cornulier in monté and Prix de Paris in sulky. The chestnut stallion is outstanding in monté and despite starting 25 metres behind his competitors he was the big favorite.
His companion in the saddle was as always Francois Roussel and together they won very easily after attacking on the outside. Dream With Me was timed in 16.5 over the 2850 metres. Second finished Eclair du Pam(Opus
Dei), who also put in a good performance. Trainer of that horse is Francois Roussels brother, Nicolas, so we can call it a stable-double.
Epee d'Or (Beausejour II) looks like a coming star. The six year old mare hasn't done so many starts yet, but she has won half of them so far. After some convincing wins in the countryside she was ready for Paris, but was given a hard time and Epee d'Or had to use everything she had in order to win for her trainer Richar W Denechere. The
kilometre-rate was 15.2 over the 2700 metres.
Saturday also saw two semi-classiques for the 3-year old horses, one for the fillies and one for the colts. The filly-division had attracted the best of the crop and it was a big field, 14 horses, who would split the
purse of FFr 550.000 ($100,000). Hindie (Tarass Boulba (Speedy Somolli)) and Serge Peltier, who came into the
race in the last turn and then passed everyone, came home alone in a very good 15.1 over the 2175 metres long distance. Second finished Hialca Speed (Big Prestige), also after a good finish.
Among the 3 year old colts there are two that rise above the rest - Hello Jo and Himo Josselyn. As always it was these two nice looking horses who finished first, way ahead from the others. Yesterday racepositions made a difference, and Hello Jo who got to the front unchallenged, kept the lead across the wire. Himo Josselyn (Cezio Josselyn) finished well as second. Hello Jo, driven and trained by Jean-Etienne Dubois, won in 1.15,7 / 2175 meters.
