Swedish Breeders Crown for 3-year olds taken by Jupiter Hornline and Styltan.

Jupiter Hornline (Lindy´s Crown - Nana´s Doll) confirmed his status as the best Swedish 3-year old colt when he won the SEK 1.000.000 ($155.000) Breeders Crown at the Axevalla track in Sweden Saturday November 2nd.

Jupiter Hornline has won most major 3-year old events except for the Swedish Kriterium where he wasn't staked. As good as he was on Sunday he has probably been better, and his victory was not assured until the last few meters of the race, where he fought off stablemate Eastender (Quick Pay) driven by the trainer of Jupiter Hornline Åke Svanstedt.

Eastender, who went to the top early was uncontested until the middle of the homestretch. Svanstedt, being the breeder of Eastender, was not allowed to drive against the horse he himself bred and couldn't sit behind his ace Jupiter Hornline in the final of the Breeders Crown. Instead he chose Stig H. Johansson as the pilot of his protegé who drove him to victory. Oden Mic (Sugarcane Hanover) who got a good trip on the inside most of the race found room to finish 3rd. Also Kamgarn (Atas Rocket) who had cover all the way from leading Eastender, made the most of it and got 4th money. One of the favorites was Nobel Ås who tired after having a trip on the outside the leading Eastender the whole race, while At Once made a break.

Jupiter Hornline is a son of Swedens leading Sire, Lindy´s Crown, and is bred by leading Swedish breeder Stuteri Hornline who with this victory has the 1996 Champion Breeder's title well in hand.

The time for the winner was 1.15,7a/2.140 meters (2:01.4 mile rate) who this year has made 13 starts, winning 11 while taking a record of 1.13,9a (1:58.4 mile rate) and earnings of SEK 1.752.500 ($265.000).

In the filly division favored Hannah Newmen made a break early in the race and was disqualified. Excuse Me was on top almost the whole race, but trainer/driver Leif Carlsson behind Styltan - way back in the field - took her flying four wide in the homestretch to take the biggest victory of his career.

Styltan, a daughter of the KGB owned stallion Super Arnie won narrowly ahead of Gossip (The Onion) who, making a break early in the race and then having raced outside the leader, finished strongly. Both Styltan och Gossip got a time of 1.18,1a/2.140 meters (2:05.3 mile rate). First money for the fillies, as for the colts, was SEK 500.000 ($77.500).
